Environmental Pollution Of Xintang Gu Rao Jeans

Workers in the new Chinese city of Zhongshan are working nervously at the jeans factory.

The factory produces 10 thousand pairs of jeans every day, almost all of which are popular nowadays.

After a busy night in Zhongshan, China, a worker can finally take a break.

Sadly, the blue dust on jeans is ruthlessly eroding their lungs.

Shoppers in Hongkong, China, are picking jeans on the street.

Analysts estimate that jeans sales in 2006 are more than $15 billion worldwide.

In addition, the factory is also responsible for washing, sandblasting, tearing and stone washing of jeans.

There are 5000 garment manufacturers in the new Chinese city.

In December 1st, an international environmental protection organization released "fashion pollution - two environmental survey of textile professional towns in China".

The survey shows that China's famous "jeans town".

Xintang

And "underwear town"

Gu Rao

Serious in existence

Environmental pollution

Some heavy metals in surface water and sediment samples exceeded the standard.

Pollution control at the source of textile and garment industry has become an urgent problem for the government and enterprises.

It is understood that Xintang is more than 60% of China.

Jeans

In the hometown, Gu Rao can produce 200 million bra a year.

The two very prosperous towns are producing fashionable and sexy clothing, creating economic income for the local people, and also causing serious pollution problems and many potential environmental impacts on people's lives.

The head of the water pollution control project of the environmental protection organization said that from 8 to October this year, the staff of the environmental protection organization selected 11 locations randomly in Xintang and the valley. 21 samples, including water and sediment, were collected and sent to third independent laboratories for testing. Heavy metals were found in 17 samples.

The contents of heavy metals Pb, Cu and Cd in three sediment samples of Xintang exceeded those of the national soil environmental quality standard. One of the sediment samples was 128 times higher than that of cadmium, while the pH value of a water sample was 11.95 higher.

During the fieldwork, investigators witnessed heartache pollution in Xintang and valley, and heard many local residents and workers complain about the pollution problem.

In many parts of the two towns, once the clear river channels are now ppiring, the air is filled with odorous or irritating odors.

There is no fish in the river. People can no longer drink the river water, laundry and irrigation.

Xintang and Gu Rao are only a microcosm of the potential pollution of the entire textile industry.

According to the statistics of the China Textile Industry Association, there are 133 "textile professional clusters" in China. The textile industry is widely distributed in China, and its scale is huge. The pollution of Gu and Xintang is only the tip of the iceberg of the whole industry.

Over the past 30 years, the textile industry has been one of the most important industries in China and even the whole world. But at the same time, the textile industry has also become the third place in the country.

At present, according to the national emission reduction requirements, local governments and manufacturing enterprises have already known about the COD emissions from sewage. However, heavy metals such as lead and cadmium in dye and dyestuffs used in textile and garment dyeing and printing industry will still exist in the sediment even through sewage treatment, and can not be solved.

At present, our country only sets up the certification of China's environmental labels for non mandatory eco textiles.

Because eco textile uses heavy metal dyes instead of raw materials, it is necessary to increase production costs.

Moreover, nonylphenol (NP), octyl phenol (OP) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), known as "environmental hormones", are also widely used in textile processes. These substances act on human endocrine system.

At present, the lack of comprehensive and systematic control measures for heavy metals and environmental hormones in China is very worrying and deserves attention.

The environmental protection organization pointed out that in order to eliminate the pollution caused by the textile industry, especially those caused by the discharge and use of toxic and harmful substances, all relevant enterprises need to take immediate action to stop the sewage disposal. At the same time, it is necessary for our government to set up and introduce pertinent regulations and standards as soon as possible, and to comprehensively and systematically manage the hazardous substances in the textile industry from the source of raw materials for textile printing and dyeing.

Tian Li: is it so hard to develop without pollution?

According to the first financial daily, the environmental pollution survey of two Chinese textile specialized towns released by an international environmental protection organization has revealed that there are serious environmental pollution problems in the famous "jeans town" of Xintang and underwear town in Guangdong province.

In fact, the environmental pollution of these two towns has existed for a long time.

What is even more serious is that there are 133 textile professional clusters in China. The pollution in Gu and Xintang may be only the tip of the iceberg of the whole industry.

Industrial clusters and industrial clusters are the most important part of the economic and social development nowadays. A similar "textile professional cluster" in a place can bring considerable G D P to the local community.

But on the other hand, many of these clusters have high pollution and high energy consumption, which will immeasurably affect the local environment and people.

Properly increasing the depth and breadth of environmental supervision and law enforcement, the better the economic development and the stronger the competitiveness, we all know the truth.

However, in the current society, "benefits for environmental protection to make way" behavior is rare.

At present, in many areas, on the assessment and appointment of cadres, the main reason is to rely on the hard index of GDP, where the GDP growth is fast, and where the main leaders have the trump card and the bottom line, they have the initiative of promotion.

Therefore, in order to pursue political achievements, government officials in some places regard GDP as the top priority, whether green or black, as long as "digging into basket is a dish".

Under such erroneous development view and political achievements view, they take all the projects as "Golden Phoenix", so as to cultivate "phoenix tree" and create a "relaxed" environment.

And some high energy consumption and high pollution projects and enterprises are also investing in this golden signboard to encamp, waste resources and pollute the environment.

Xintang and Valley Rao pursue development and abandon the environment.

The next way to go is to choose the local officials.

To avoid similar tragedies, environmental protection must be listed as a rigid index for performance evaluation of Party committees and governments at all levels, and a strict accountability system should be implemented to create a social atmosphere that respects environmental protection, pays attention to environmental protection and protects environmental protection.

Only in this way can we really change the "hard" environment and the awkward situation of "soft" implementation, and the problem of development or pollution will be solved. "Black G D P" and polluting enterprises will be far away from us.
