Fast Retailing, the parent company of Uniqlo, Japan's fast fashion giant, said recently that the company has made strong measures to ensure payment of suppliers' normal payments during the epidemic, and that the protection of the normal operation and production of garment factories is one of the most important responsibilities of the company.

Under the epidemic, clothing brands in Europe and the United States have cancelled orders, causing many factories to be paralyzed, especially in Bangladesh. Although the factories there have been restarted, there are not enough orders to meet the normal expenses. Although the epidemic is easing, many garment factories will still face a shortage of orders at least until the summer.

XXX said that the company promised to arrange payment for completed orders and orders that had already been started, and that the policy would not change until the end of the epidemic. Fast marketing group promises: "suppliers will purchase relevant fabrics or materials to fulfill our orders, and if we cancel the order, we will also provide compensation."

At present, most Chinese stores in UNIQLO have resumed operations, and all partners have resumed production. Fast marketing group plans to negotiate with each production partner, according to the company's responsibility procurement policy, assess the current financial situation of the partners, and provide support when necessary.

On this basis, the Xun group will take a series of measures, such as adjusting the production schedule, redistributing orders among partners when feasible, so as to ensure that the order allocation does not make partners bear unaffordable financial risks or pressures.

"We hope to play an active role in mitigating the economic threat brought by the epidemic," said Xun marketing group. To ensure the safety of workers in the supply chain, the company has developed the "BetterWork" plan jointly with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the World Bank Group International Finance Corporation (IFC). The plan will provide guidance for factories, including strengthening their hygiene measures and helping them understand their responsibilities to employees after closure. "

The group recommends that partners take strict preventive measures and provide disinfection measures to some factories as well as infrared thermometers to check the body temperature of employees. At the same time, the company will work with the United Nations International Organization for migration (IOM) to ensure that migrant workers get enough help from their employers.

In order to comply with the trend of transparency in supply chain, XXX announced its list of main cooperative factories of its brand UNIQLO and GU in December 2018, including flour mills and garment factories in China, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, Kampuchea, Korea, Malaysia and Turkey, including 161 factories in China.
