Recently, the researchers analyzed and tested the pottery samples collected from six Yangshao cultural sites such as Dingcun in Mianchi County, Henan Province, and found plain fabric prints and hand prints on the inside of the pottery pieces, which provided important material evidence for the research of textile technology and pottery making technology in Yangshao era.

"In previous archaeological excavations at the Yangshao site, fabric impressions were only found sporadically at the bottom or ears of the objects, but it was the first time that the fabric marks were found on the inside of the small mouth pointed bottom bottle." Yang Shuan Chao, a researcher at Yangshao culture research center, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, found that based on the joint research of the center and the China Silk Museum, the conclusion was drawn through morphological analysis and multi spectral detection of 15 samples of small mouth pointed bottom bottles.

Li Xinwei, director of the Yangshao culture research center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said that the plain weave fabric marks and hand patterns on the inside of the pottery pieces of the small mouth pointed bottom bottle showed the textile skills of the Yangshao era, as well as the hand-made pottery techniques of that era. The small mouth pointed bottom bottle is a kind of utensil throughout the Yangshao period in 2000. It is also the largest unearthed Yangshao cultural artifacts. Cloth is widely used in making the pottery, which shows that cloth is also a kind of common consumable.

The earliest traces of pottery found in Yangmian village, Henan Province. In March 2019, yangshuan Dynasty collected some pottery pieces with decorative patterns on the inside. Later, pottery pieces with the same characteristics were found in several other Yangshao cultural sites in Mianchi, such as the West Henan site and Nanchang site.

"This discovery of plain weave fabric marks is an important material evidence of textile Archaeology in Yangshao period, which can directly confirm the textile objects at that time, and will greatly promote our research on textile technology of that period." Zhou Min, director of the key scientific research base of the State Administration of cultural relics for textile protection (China Silk Museum), said.

At present, the Yangshao cultural research center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the China Silk Museum have signed a research cooperation project on "Yangshao textile technology and clothing" to carry out in-depth research on related topics. (end)
