At the second China Industrial Textile Industry Science and Technology Development Conference held recently, Sun Jinliang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and director of the Composite Materials Research Center of Shanghai University, appealed.

Sun Jinliang stressed that in the face of the severe and complex international environment, the industrial textile industry should open up new fields and new tracks for development, and cultivate new quality productivity. Fundamentally, it should rely on scientific and technological innovation.

   Become one of the strategic emerging industries

It is worth noting that at present, scientific and technological innovation is quietly leading the transformation and upgrading of the textile industry, helping the textile industry to accelerate the creation of new quality productivity.

According to statistics, by the end of 2023, China's textile industry has a total of 337000 effective patents, including 89000 invention patents. In addition, in the past two years, 12 high-quality patents in the textile industry have added 4.22 billion yuan in sales and 780 million yuan in profits. Remarkable achievements have been made in the use and promotion of high-value patented technologies.

"In China, high-tech textiles have become an important part of strategic emerging industries, a diversified high-tech industry that transcends traditional textiles and spans many fields." Li Lingshen, vice president of the China Textile Industry Federation, analyzed that, on the one hand, textiles are closely integrated with high-performance materials, electronic technology, etc., becoming a new carrier; On the other hand, textile materials are closely linked with downstream industries, widely used in aerospace, medical and health, transportation, energy, agriculture and other fields, forming a new industrial chain.

For example, Li Lingshen said that aerospace textiles can be used to manufacture parachutes, flight suits, space suits, on-board antennas, aerospace cargo bags, etc. The textiles for filtration and separation can be used for high-temperature gas filtration, industrial wastewater treatment, food industry filtration, seawater desalination and other fields, and play an important role in pollution prevention and improvement of water, air and soil quality.

   Meet diversified and high-end demands

The conference was hosted by China Industrial Textile Industry Association. Many textile industry experts shared the latest progress of high-tech textiles in different fields during the conference.

"Glass fiber reinforced composites, low-cost carbon fiber reinforced composites and basalt fiber reinforced composites have become the three major structural resin matrix composites for automotive lightweight." Yang Jie, the executive deputy secretary general of the Strategic Alliance for Automotive Lightweight Technology Innovation, said that the annual composite growth rate of global automotive fiber reinforced composites is expected to reach 6.6%.

Xia Yanzhi, Dean of the Marine Fiber New Materials Research Institute of Qingdao University, shared the basic research and application research progress of new fiber materials based on seaweed, and introduced the application of seaweed fiber in biomedical, health care, flame retardant protection and other fields.

"Traditional basic industries do not represent backward productivity, and continuous technological innovation can stimulate the textile industry to glow with new vitality and provide an important driving force for the textile industry to develop new quality productivity." Li Lingshen believes that in the future, the textile industry needs to focus on key technologies for the preparation of high-performance fiber materials and important technical directions such as the development and application of high-performance nonwovens, Continuously develop textile products with unique functions, high performance and high quality to meet the increasingly diversified and high-end needs of end users.

"At present, China has become the country with the most complete categories, types and industrial chains of industrial textiles in the world, but there are still some problems, such as lack of original innovation, poor cooperation between industry, university and research, and some industrial chain supply chains are under the control of people." Sun Jinliang proposed how to gradually upgrade cost advantages into technology, quality, performance, brand and value advantages, It is still a subject that needs constant thinking and exploration in the textile industry.
