From March 28 to April 1, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League held a series of activities of 2025 "China Huafu Week · Rainbow Clothes on the Cloud" in Kunming, Yunnan, attracting many citizens and tourists to participate, especially among young people. According to statistics, more than 400000 Chinese and foreign young people participated in the field.

   Colorful activities create audio-visual feast

"The mulberry leaves are green, the silkworm becomes cocoon, the silk thread is drawn, the silk cotton is woven..." The childish voice counts the "Clothing Manual" carefully, the lights are like a river of stars, and a set of exquisite traditional costumes take turns on the stage.

This is one of the series activities of "Chinese Costume Week · Rainy Clothes on the Cloud" held in the No.1 Studio of Yunnan Radio and Television Station, Chenggong District, Kunming City - "Chinese Costume Charm". The performance is divided into four chapters, namely "Nishang Paints the World", "Qiandui Yunshu", "Lanyun Pays Biography" and "Chongli Weiyang". With a unique perspective and art form, it vividly presents the millennium evolution of Chinese clothing, the gorgeous and colorful national clothing, the poetic picture of children's voices, and the artistic charm of the integration of opera and dance.

Wang Shujin, a student of Yunnan University for Nationalities, was deeply attracted by the beautiful scene. "After watching the performance, my first feeling was shock and excitement." Wang Shujin said that she had a strong interest in traditional Chinese clothing, but had limited understanding. The performance let her gain a lot of knowledge, but also had a deeper understanding of traditional clothing. For example, the program "Huaxia Dress" in "Huafu Yun Dian" inserted the Chinese clothing of various dynasties into it, while integrating elements such as Hu Xuan dance, Very exciting.

Shaxia Ayao, the director of "Huafu Yundian", introduced that nearly 400 sets of costumes were selected for the whole performance, and the details of costumes were meticulously refined to activate the connotation of costumes. Another example is that when displaying the Ming Dynasty Chinese costumes, the team chose to repeat the three years of the Ming Dynasty Yongle Queen's regular clothes one by one, including the yellow blouse and the Xiaoduan Queen's nine dragon and nine phoenix crown."

According to the relevant person in charge of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League, this activity is rich in links, including Chinese costume rhymes, Chinese costume tours, intangible cultural heritage workshops, special lectures, overseas students' experience activities, etc. Four squares were set up for the Chinese Costume Tour to display 50 sets of Chinese Costumes in total. At the same time, it was accompanied by ritual performances of different dynasties. It was hoped that the costumes would be used as a cut to show the tradition of "showing ceremony with clothes", echoing the oriental wisdom of "cultural people" in Chinese civilization.

This Chinese costume tour was held in 7 popular scenic spots, including Guandu Ancient Town, Cuihu Park, Xishan Scenic Area, Dianchi Plank Road, etc. In the classical gardens full of spring, in the quaint Guandu Ancient Town, in the scenic spots of mountains and lakes, in the ecological corridors with sparkling lakes, the young people in colorful clothes perform in a series of mobile performances, perfectly integrating the traditional charm and youthful vitality, attracting tourists from home and abroad to stop.

"I was particularly impressed. In Guandu Ancient Town, many people took photos with us after the performance, and foreign friends asked if they could wear this skirt." After the tour, Zha Shanyu also explained the knowledge of horse dress to the audience, and then took everyone to the "Intangible Cultural Heritage Workshop" on the tour route.

In Guandu Ancient Town, there are 21 intangible cultural heritage experience sites, bringing rich cultural experience to citizens and tourists. The exhibition area has a dazzling array of Chinese costumes and ethnic costumes: Chinese costumes made in Han, Jin, Tang, Song and Ming dynasties are superb, and costumes of Yi, Hani, Bai and Dai nationalities are exquisite and distinctive. In the experience area, black copper flows like moonlight, filigree enamel is colorful, clouds are crystal clear, and Jianshui purple pottery is simple and thick, all of which reflect the unique charm of Yunnan intangible cultural heritage technology. There was also a lecture on ceramics and intangible cultural heritage in Yunnan Normal University, which attracted more than 200 students. After watching the performance, Wang Shujin plans to join the school's Hanfu Club to further explore the profound connotation of traditional clothing. At Yunnan University for Nationalities, activities such as costume fitting and tea ceremony experience also let international youth experience the "epic on their body". Young people are not only audience, but also inheritors and disseminators of Chinese excellent traditional culture. Zha Shanyu is one of the members of the Hanfu Club of Kunming City University. Like her, many members of the Hanfu Club participated in this activity.

"On weekdays, we will also organize activities such as polishing hairpin flowers and cultural flash, and this Huafu Week will let more people see our efforts," said Zha Shanyu. She also learned a lot of new knowledge during the Huafu Week, such as the design of the Ming Dynasty horse face skirt pleats, which gives consideration to both beauty and practicality, and maintains dignity and is convenient for action. At this Huafu Week, Kunming City College brought a performance integrating folk music and electronic music, which was refreshing. "Our school has sent more than 150 young teachers and students to participate in the Huafu Week, and they learned about traditional clothing while rehearsing within 15 days. Fan Jia, a teacher in the Fashion Design Department of Yunnan Art College, is also proud of the creativity of young people. In the "Huafu Yundian" performance, the fashion show brought by Fan Jia's team opened with melodious drum music. One of them is called "Zimogni" (meaning "good luck, good health and beauty" in Yi language), which is made of modern oxford cloth. It also contains Chinese clothing elements such as stand collar and diagonal placket, and patterns such as cloud pattern and sun pattern of Yi people.

"In the process of guiding students to design, I can feel their love for Chinese culture and the inspiration that Chinese elements bring to them. In terms of design, our tradition is not outdated."
