In the month of 2012 1~4, the retail sales of clothing products in the above wholesale and retail enterprises increased by only 15.4%, which was lower than that of the wholesale and retail enterprises above designated size. The growth rate of clothing retail sales was significantly lower than that of the wholesale and retail enterprises in the same period of last year, and the growth rate of clothing retail sales increased by 8.7 percentage points.

Moreover, the growth rate is only 0.1 percentage points higher than that in the first 4 months of 2009, which is the most severe period of the financial crisis.


Meanwhile, according to the statistics of the China National Business Information Center, in 2012 1~4, the retail sales of clothing commodities in major large retail enterprises increased by 10.3% over the same period last year, significantly lower than the same period last year and the level of the previous year.

In 2011, the growth rate of retail sales of all major retail enterprises in China was only 4.36%, which was 5.84 percentage points lower than that in 2010. Meanwhile, the growth rate of all kinds of clothing retail sales in 2011 was the lowest since 2001.


The surge in prices has gradually become an important factor driving the growth of retail sales.

In 2011, the contribution rate of clothing products unit price to retail sales growth reached 79.9%, which was significantly higher than the previous year's level, and increased by 28.2 percentage points compared to 2010.

That is to say, nearly 80% of the increase in garment retail sales in 2011 came from pulling up the unit price.


In 2012 1~4, the clothing prices of the major retail enterprises in the country continued to rise, although the increase has slowed down, but the garment retail sales in the first 4 months have shown a downward trend compared with the same period last year, down 0.51% compared with the same period last year. That is to say, the continuous rising price has exceeded the range that consumers can afford, and the amount of consumer purchases has decreased significantly compared with the same period last year.

In addition, it also shows that in the first 4 months of the growth of clothing retail sales, the contribution is also derived from price increases, while the contribution of retail sales growth is negative.

Clothing sales in April

The growth rate has picked up.


After the first quarter of the relatively low sales growth, the major retail enterprises took advantage of the Qingming holiday and the May 1 holiday ahead of schedule in April, and the chance of clothing changing season.


According to the data of the National Bureau of statistics, in April 2012, the retail sales of wholesale and retail clothing above the limit increased by 19.1% over the same period last year, 0.1 percentage points higher than that of last month.


According to the statistics from the China National Business Information Center on the major retail enterprises in the country, the retail sales of clothing commodities increased by 18.45% in the same period in April, even though it was still less than the same level in the same period of last year. However, the growth rate in the first quarter of this year increased significantly compared with the first quarter of this year, which increased by nearly 10 percentage points faster than that in the first quarter. The sales volume of all kinds of clothing retail was also the fastest year-on-year growth rate of 6.51% since the beginning of this year, thanks to the promotion of holiday sales. The sales volume of the clothing industry in 2012 was also higher than that in the first quarter.

Among them, men's suits and winter clothing sales growth is the most obvious, year-on-year growth rate was 19.33% and 25.98% respectively.
